San Clemente, CA – March 18, 2021 — The IVD Industry Connectivity Consortium today announced the release of LOINC® to Vendor IVD (LIVD) Specification V2.0. LIVD outlines an industry-defined format to facilitate the publication and exchange of LOINC codes for vendor IVD test results, based on either vendor IVD test transmission codes or manual test identification, for use by laboratory personnel or laboratory applications. The format can be used as-is by IVD software systems to automate the mapping between vendor IVD test transmission codes and LOINC codes, significantly reducing the risk of erroneously mapped test results and units of measure.
The LOINC to Vendor IVD V2.0 update includes the following:
The LIVD specification is referenced in the June 4, 2020 Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) laboratory data reporting guidance for COVID-19 testing, providing LOINC mappings for SARS-CoV-2 to assure the timely and quality data reporting to state and federal public health agencies of diagnostic tests (available in the United States).
The LOINC for IVD (LIVD) standard is also listed by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) in its Interoperability Standards Advisory (ISA). It may be implemented under a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free public license.

The IVD Industry Connectivity Consortium (IICC) is a global, nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and encouraging adoption of a unified connectivity standard to reduce the cost and variability of data exchange between IVD devices and healthcare informatics in clinical laboratories. This will improve healthcare efficiency and patient care. For more information contact:
